"To Give Graciously Of What Is Mine"
The Alpha Theta chapter has given of our time and talents to our philanthropic cause, speech and hearing, as well as other chapters' causes across campus.
Delta Zeta's philanthropy is speech and hearing. All of our philanthropic efforts go towards funding these organizations, volunteering on site, and serving their efforts. Delta Zeta has two national philanthropies and one local philanthropy.
- Starkey Hearing Foundation
- The Painted Turtle Camp
- The Lexington Hearing and Speech Center
Each fall, Delta Zeta hosts the Mr. UK Pageant, an all-male beauty pageant with participants from organizations across campus. Through donations and fundraising, Delta Zeta was able to raise $32,000 for Starkey Hearing Foundation and Lexington Hearing and Speech. Each Spring, Delta Zeta holds a philanthropy event called DZ Dodge, which will be a Dodgeball tournament to benefit our national and local philanthropies. Here in Lexington we are partnered with Lexington Hearing and Speech, a school where children with hearing and speech impairments can get the specialized care they need to get the most out of their education. The event will also benefit the Delta Zeta foundation, which is an organization through our national headquarters that allows members to travel on some missions as well as on other service and learning trips. Delta Zeta also participates in other chapters' events including Greek Sing, Stompapalooza, The Main Event, Anchor Slam, Shamrock 5K, and many others. Our biggest philanthropic achievement outside from our own philanthropy is our contributions and efforts for DanceBlue: the University of Kentucky's 24-hour, no sitting, dance marathon. In 2014, our chapter raised over $35,000 for DanceBlue, which supports the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic through the Golden Matrix Fund. In 2015, we were able to raise over $40,000, being the largest donation from an organization in DanceBlue. Delta Zeta was honored the Golden Matrix award in 2014 and 2015 for our extensive service hours and donations to the event.
